The Institute for Youth Health and Development (IYHD) is currently accepting applications for the following two volunteer leadership positions  These positions are for the fulfillment of the July 2018 - April 2019 term. *Individuals identifying as racialize and first and second generation immigrants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Executive Position:

Director of Public Relations

The Director of Public Relations position is a volunteer executive team position at the Institute for Youth Health and Development (IYHD). The Director of Public Relations is responsible for overseeing media coverage and community appearance opportunities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Secure and coordinate media coverage for the organization, including but not limited to news, podcasts, radio, television, blogs, and magazines.

  • Work with media outlets to publish timely organization information, such as press releases, brochures, and other materials.

  • Manage relationships with media outlets and

  • Produce and publish mass communications with email blasts and marketing campaigns.

  • Secure and coordinate community appearance opportunities for the organization, including but not limited to attending, participating, speaking, and presenting at events, conferences, and speaking engagements.

  • Be informed about current news and local events that may be of interest to IYHD

  • Ensure communication strategy is consistent and reflects the organization’s vision.

  • Collaborate with Multimedia team to develop the advertising, marketing, and promotion plans.

Qualifications:

  • Either in final year or graduated from a Public Relations/ Media Relations/ Communications Program, and/or equivalent work experience in Public Relations/ Media Relations/ Communications.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple simultaneous requests.

  • Exceptional project management, teamwork, and communication skills.

  • Having experience in youth-focused organizations and an educational background in health or social justice fields are assets but not required.

Committee Positions:

Graphic Designer

The Graphic Designer position is a volunteer position at the Institute for Youth Health and Development (IYHD). The Graphic Designer is responsible for coordinating with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to design infographics, report layouts, website and social media graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and all other digital and print promotional materials.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to design all promotional digital and print media materials, including but not limited to infographics, report layouts, website and social media graphics, PowerPoint presentations, posters, and pamphlets.

  • Present campaign concepts to the Multimedia and Public Relations Committee.

  • Assist the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations in brainstorming online marketing and brand awareness strategies, as well as create a strong and consistent look and feel in all projects to align with the IYHD’s overall vision.

  • Manage the uploading of print-ready files to partners, sponsors, and during IYHD events.

  • Average weekly commitment: 7 hours.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design or in a related field and/or equivalent work experience is an asset.

  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (must have 3+ years using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign), MS Office, MS PowerPoint and knowledge of print production procedures.

  • Experience in animation (After Effects) and web design (Squarespace skills) are considered a strong asset.

  • Solid knowledge of typography and colour theory.

  • Exceptional project management, teamwork, and communication skills.

  • Background in any health-related, social science field at the undergraduate or graduate level is preferred but not required.

Social Media Community Manager

The Social Media Community Manager position is a volunteer position at the Institute for Youth Health and Development (IYHD). The Social Media Community Manager is responsible for coordinating with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to monitor, evaluate, and guide a variety of external online communities (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Blogs, and Website) for the purpose of increasing brand awareness and building brand equity that will result in stronger relationships with our online community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Multimedia and Public Relations Director to organize campaign launches.

  • Recruit online community members and/or IYHD ambassadors to share and to engage in activity with the organization while pushing launches and growth initiatives of their own.

  • Lead weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting on social media efforts keeping the Multimedia and Public Relations committee up to speed on initiatives and results.

  • Manage the relationships with our growing online network and assist with the IYHD’s messaging needs, including but not limited to encouraging engagement and two-way communication, moderate, report on activity, and make strategic and tactical recommendations based on trend observations and discussions within each of the social platforms.

  • Build a list of important influencers aligned with IYHD’s mission and values. This includes but is not limited to members of the media, non-profits, politicians, youth-engagement, and public health initiatives.

  • Average weekly commitment: 5 hours.

 

Qualifications

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple simultaneous requests.

  • Strong communication and data-based decision-making skills.

  • Expert knowledge of social media.

  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to reflect different tones and styles to reflect the IYHD online communities you will be representing and engaging with through social media.

  • Background in any health-related, social science field at the undergraduate or graduate level is preferred but not required.

 

Social Media Content Manager

The Social Media Content Manager position is a volunteer position at the Institute for Youth Health and Development (IYHD). The Social Media Content Manager is responsible for coordinating with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to develop social media strategies, create content, and oversee the day-to-day management of the IYHD’s social media presence, including managing the weekly content calendar.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage social media calendar and content strategy for the organization geared towards driving engagement with our existing community as well as acquiring new followers, and execute for all social media platforms geared including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Lead bi-weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting on social media efforts keeping the Multimedia and Public Relations Committee up to speed on initiatives and results.

  • Stay up to date on new social media tools and practices, and suggest improvements when necessary.

  • Perform in-depth content analysis of social media engagement to examine the success of certain content over others and put into action plans that capitalize on these findings.

  • Collaborate with the Multimedia and Public Relations Committee on all content – from email to widespread digital marketing campaigns – guided by our brand guidelines and voice.

  • Fully competent with photo, graphic design and video editing tools (Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Average weekly commitment: 7 hours

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in writing, editing, creating, and leading content for social media outlets.

  • Exceptional time management skills and an ability to handle competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Superior writing ability and communication skills: ensuring that the IYHD’s voice is broadcasted to our online community in an authentic, relatable way.

  • Successful experience managing social profiles and building an online brand.

  • Background in any health-related social science field at the undergraduate or graduate level is preferred.

     

Website Content Manager and Blogger

The Website Content Manager and Blogger position is a volunteer position at the Institute for Youth Health and Development (IYHD). The Website Content Manager and Blogger is responsible for coordinating with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to update, oversee, and maintain the IYHD website.

  

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, update, and oversee the IYHD’s website operation and content using Squarespace.

  • Update information contained on the site; some content is updated yearly (staff, images, other static content), other content is updated weekly or bi-weekly (blogs, menus, news stories, opportunities, videos etc.).

  • Work with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to facilitate and executive the IYHD’s plan and vision for the website.

  • Works with the Director of Multimedia and Public Relations to brainstorm and write blog posts and news articles highlighting events, accomplishments, and more within and beyond the IYHD.

  • Troubleshoots any problems with the website.

  • Average weekly commitment: 7 hours

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including spelling, grammar, punctuation as well as composition, editing and proofing.

  • Expertise in design, graphics, and layout related to websites, along with a strong sense of design and creativity.

  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (must have 2+ years using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign) and MS Office.

  • Willing to contribute to team discussions, collaboration, and design direction.

  • Experience in web design (Squarespace skills) is considered a strong asset.

  • Background in any health-related social science field at the undergraduate or graduate level is required.

Leadership Team Expectations:

  • All committee positions must commit to a bi-weekly 1 - 1.5 hour in-person

  • Must arrive at meetings in a timely manner and make an effort to attend team building/ social and training events

  • Must abide by organizational constitutional laws, community expectations, and mandate

  • Uphold the mission, vision, and values of the Institute for Youth Health & Development
